Installing Endnote

Endnote is available free of charge to all Flinders staff and students. It can be installed on one device per person.

There are versions for Windows and Mac devices (for iPads, visit the iTunes store)

Check the system requirements before you try installing.

PC Installation Instructions

  1. Go to the download page. Enter your FAN and password. Read the terms and conditions and click the Agree button.
  2. Download the installation file. Once the download has completed, you will be able to locate the file in through the “Downloads” folder on your computer. The file is “zipped”.
  3. You first have to unzip the file. You must unzip both the msi and the dat file to the same location before running ENXInst.msi or else you will have problems installing this software (i.e. it will ask for a product key). To unzip the file, right click on it then select the “Extract All …” option.
  4. You will be prompted as to where to extract the files to. The default position will be the “downloads” folder. You can leave it there. Select the “Show extracted files when complete” option and then select “Extract”.

  5. The extracted files will then open in a new window on the screen. Double click the top file, ending .msi

  6. The Endnote Installation Guide will then appear. Follow prompts through the installation set up. If you have successfully unzipped the files, it will not prompt you for a Product Key. If it does prompt, repeat steps 3 - 5 and try again.

Mac Installation Instructions

  1. Go to the download page. Enter your FAN and password. Read the terms and conditions and click the Agree button.
  2. Download the installation file.
  3. Open the installation file.
  4. Drag the Endnote X7 folder to the Applications folder.
